18 oz vinyl is the heavy-duty waterproof fabric used in commercial flat bed truck tarps.  It is very versatile for covering all sorts of items, and comes in a wide variety of colors.  We use this material for many of the equipment covers we fabricate.  Estimated life is 5 years.
